        Surgana, Nasik district (Gujarat – Maharashtra Border) A cleanliness drive was organized and executed by Yuvacharyas in Surgana. Several Art of Living courses have been conducted in this village since eight years. A number of seminars have been conducted to inspire the villagers towards cleanliness, health and hygiene.
       The sarpanch shared that no cleaning was done in this village since 15 years. Though, the need for a clean environment was emphasized time and again to the villagers.
       As the villagers from nearby areas used to visit Surgana for shopping every week, the villagers were explained that once the village is clean and beautiful, it would attract more visitors.
       Six teachers, 90 yuvacharyas and 40 villagers took an oath to clean Surgana. The cleanliness drive lasted ten days from June 1-10, 2016.
       320 tractor loads of solid waste was cleared. Villagers were surprised to observe the gutters which were blocked since years, were so clean now.
       After the successful completion of the cleanliness drive,the local panchayat announced that it would levy a fine of Rs. 10,000/- on those who litter on the road. The local panchayat gave certificates to yuvacharyas and honoured them for their good work.

     Bhaskar,one of our volunteer from Surgana shared that , the local administration has been actively supporting the volunteers and cleanliness is now a way of life in Surgana .
